How to Troll Weed Lines for Mahi
Weed lines are one of the most recognizable places to search for mahi.
But trolling lures along the weedlines takes some technique. You don't simply drive down the middle of the weeds.
When a weedline is found, work the cleanest edge whenever conditions allow. Look for the following things when determining how much time to spend working a weedline before moving on. Not every weed patch or weedline has Mahi. If you don't see anything from the list below, move on to search for the next patch!
You're looking for:
- Flying fish
- Bait
- Birds
- Debris
- Current breaks
- Color changes
- Temperature changes
- Life around the weed line
Keep your trolling spread close enough to productive structure to attract fish without constantly covering every lure with grass.

Tip: When grass becomes especially bad, constantly check your baits. Typically, Mahi will not strike lures fouled with seaweed.
