A traditional 6-line trolling spread can be broken into:

Let's break down where to run each mahi lure and why.
1. Short Corner: Maniac Flash Chugger
The Short Corner is one of the closest trolling positions to the boat, so we want something that takes advantage of the boat's prop wash and creates plenty of commotion.
That's where we like the Maniac Flash Chugger.
The Flash Chugger is designed to create significant splash and surface disturbance while providing plenty of flash from its skirt. Its rear cavity also allows it to be paired with a rigged ballyhoo when you want to add natural bait to the presentation.
Why we like it on the Short Corner:
The boat itself is already acting like a giant teaser.
Prop wash, bubbles, vibration, and turbulence can make it appear that bait is being disturbed below the surface. A chugger positioned around this activity can look like another baitfish trying to escape.
Best setup:
Position: Short Corner
Lure: Double Trouble
Presentation: Naked or with rigged ballyhoo
Watch the lure while trolling and adjust its distance until it consistently grabs water, surfaces, and dives again without tumbling.
2. Long Corner: Maniac Flash Witch + Rigged Ballyhoo
For the Long Corner, we like adding a more natural presentation to the spread.
Enter the Maniac Flash Witch.
Our trolling witches are loaded with nylon hair and premium Mylar to create both profile and flash in the water. Pair one with a properly rigged ballyhoo and you have a classic offshore presentation with a Mahi Maniacs twist.
Why put a trolling witch over a ballyhoo?
The ballyhoo provides the natural swimming profile and scent.
The trolling witch adds:

- Flash
- Profile
- Movement
- Additional attraction
This gives mahi a very different target compared with the more aggressive chugging lures elsewhere in the spread.

Bright blue, chartreuse/green, white, pink, and silver combinations can all have their day depending on the bait, sunlight, water clarity, and conditions.
3. Short Rigger: Flying Fish Chugger
Mahi regularly feed on flying fish offshore, so we want at least one lure in the spread that provides a bright fleeing-baitfish presentation.
Our Flying Fish Chugger fills that role.
One of our favorite combinations is a blue-and-silver sparkle pattern designed to provide plenty of flash as the lure works through clean offshore water.
Run the Flying Fish Chugger from the Short Rigger.
This gives it enough distance from the boat to work in cleaner water while remaining close enough to take advantage of the activity created by the boat and the closer baits.

Presentation: Naked or paired with bait depending on configuration
When flying fish are present, this becomes an especially important lure in the spread.
4. Long Rigger: Mini Maniac Chugger
If we had to choose a versatile lure to keep in a mahi spread, the Mini Maniac Chugger would be high on the list.
The Long Rigger is an excellent place for it.
At this distance, we're looking for a lure that remains visible and active while working farther back in cleaner water.
The Mini Maniac Chugger creates the combination you want:
Dive → swim → surface → breathe → splash → dive again.
That irregular movement helps mimic a baitfish struggling to keep up with the rest of the school. Making it an easy target for Mahi and other pelagic fish!
Best setup:
Position: Long Rigger
Lure: Mini Maniac Chugger
Purpose: Versatile searching lure
This is also a position where changing lure colors can help determine what the mahi want that particular day.
Once one color begins consistently producing bites, start introducing similar colors elsewhere in the spread.
5. Short Shotgun: Mini Maniac Bullet
The farther behind the boat we go, the more important it becomes to have lures that track cleanly.
That's why we like a Mini Maniac Bullet in the Short Shotgun position.
Bullet-style trolling heads create a different action than aggressive chuggers.
Rather than creating constant surface disturbance, the streamlined head allows the lure to track through the water with a cleaner swimming action.
That gives the spread another presentation.
And when you're fishing around scattered weeds, a streamlined bullet-style head can also be useful because there are fewer aggressive surfaces to grab floating grass compared with some larger cupped lure heads.

Purpose: Clean-running searching presentation
6. Long Shotgun: Maniac Jet Bullet or Maniac Jet Bullet Chain
Way back there, we want something mahi can notice.
That's where the Maniac Jet Bullet comes into the spread.
We particularly like this lure in the Shotgun position because its jet-style design creates a visible smoke trail as water moves through the head.
This creates a different visual signature than the other five lures.
While the closer baits work around the turbulence created by the boat, the Jet Bullet is working farther behind the spread as another potential target.
And don't underestimate the shotgun.
Mahi frequently appear seemingly out of nowhere and crush the bait sitting way behind everything else.
